Tasks
- We are seeking a highly innovative, motivated, and engaging technical Scientific Sales Manager to join our EMEA Discovery Scientific Sales team and support the development of our discovery workflow solutions. This field-based position will focus on leading a team of field-based scientific sales specialists and its main goal will be to develop our sales on that specific portfolio, to increase our field presence and to identify and convert large opportunities which impact our revenue.
- These activities will define Merck role as a key scientific and innovative partner in all segments (academia, biotech, pharma, industrial & testing as well as diagnostic customers), especially in the R&D. This role will be responsible for achieving defined financial targets at specific accounts as well as different KPIs (SFDC opportunity pipeline, field presence, seminar realization) to ensure field presence and development and maintenance of an impactful opportunity pipeline for the discovery workflow solutions.
- The position reports to the Head of Scientific Sales Specialist EMEA for Discovery and is field-based with regular travel in particular to coach the field sales specialists and support goals realization. This position has direct reports.
- Ability to lead, coach and motivate a team of scientific sales specialists
- Change management skills
- Highly developed technical / scientific skills matched with an acute intuition for business, sales-focused & impactful approach
- Ability to engage and interact with customers, with end users, lab managers, and department heads
- Consultative selling skills to position our innovations, identify large opportunities and convert them
- Capability to develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline in line with sales target
- Understand the customers pain points, market trends, identify areas of potential growth to generate and replicate large opportunities successfully & guide the team accordingly
- Ability to partner with internal collaborators and uses their internal network to prepare business cases to address specific customer needs
- Management of multiple problems simultaneously with a high degree of independence
- Ability to work in a matrix environment and to ensure a smooth collaboration across services (Account management, field marketing, product management, technical service, customer service, etc) & regular feedback (i.e. market trend insight exchange with the franchises)
- Present findings, analysis and recommendations to various internal audiences, including at the executive level
Profile
- Minimum Qualifications
- Engineer, MS with 5+ years with a strong knowledge of the chemical synthesis portfolio, our small biomolecules as well as the AI solutions we offer to facilitate our customer drug discovery workflow.
- Proven sales track record and evidence of sales management
- Proven track record of networking activities
- Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with customers
- Ability to identify & address priorities, major roadblock and elevation of concrete business cases
- Ability to travel – minimum of 25% travel across EMEA
- Understanding of the multi-channel approach strategy
- Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in the life sciences or engineering, PhD preferred, ideally with 5y+ experience in sales
- Strong background and understanding of R&D/QC in various segments (industry, pharma, biotech, academia)
- Professional experience in an international environment
- Strong internal network
